TA3403 Turbocharger for John Deere 6059T 6068T 6359T
Direct-fit TA3403 turbocharger for John Deere 6059T, 6068T, 6359T and 6414T diesels - the unit that packs the intake charge on these 300 Series six-cylinders so a loader keeps its breakout force and a stand-by set picks up load.
The turbo does one job on all four engine codes: it forces air in so a 359 ci block holds 115 to 140 hp and a 414 ci block 150 hp and more, and keeps that pressure steady as the load swings. When the original wears - shaft play at the nut, oil past the seals, a wheel that has rubbed its cover, a housing cracked at the inlet flange - the engine smokes under load and power falls away. This is a new TA3403 built to 466980-5001S.
Includes: one TA3403 assembly with mounting gaskets.
Fitment
| Engine Model | Engine Years |
|---|---|
| Fits John Deere 6359T (5.9L, Saran, engine code 6506) | 1983-1995 |
| Fits John Deere 6414T (6.8L, Saran, engine code 6506) | 1983-1995 |
| Fits John Deere 6059T (5.9L, Dubuque, engine code 6506) | 1985-2000 |
| Fits John Deere 6068T (6.8L, Dubuque, s/n 699999 and earlier) | 1985-2000 |
These four codes are two engines under two plant designations: 6359 and 6059 are the same 359 ci six, 6414 and 6068 the same 414 ci six, with Saran in France and Dubuque in Iowa each using its own code. The same engines went into loaders, backhoes and 60 Hz generator sets for John Deere, so one assembly serves all four.
Does not fit: the naturally aspirated 6359D and 6414D, which carry no turbocharger; the four-cylinder 3179, 4239 and 4045; the 6076 and 6081 six-cylinders, which take a larger frame unit; the electronic 6068 Tier 3 and Interim Tier 4 from 2006 on; and 6068 engines built at Dubuque above serial 699999. Send the engine serial and the number off your old plate and we will confirm.
Check yours before you order. Neither deciding factor is the model year. 1. Read the plate on the compressor housing - 466980-0001, 466980-5001S or 466980-9001S, model TA3403. If it reads TA3401, TA3402 or TA4502, send a photo first. 2. Read the engine code on the block - 6506 on the turbocharged 6059T, 6068T and 6359T. 3. Note the clocking: 190 degrees on the compressor housing, 116 on the turbine housing, so the charge pipe and downpipe must land where your original does. 4. If your old unit carries a wastegate actuator, photograph both.
Why It's Better
- New castings, new core. The turbine housing is a new 407316-0053 casting at 1.15 A/R and the cartridge is new - not a forty-year-old housing with a rebuilt core in it.
- Balanced as an assembly. Shaft and wheel set are balanced as one rotating unit before they go into the bearing housing, which is what keeps the bearings quiet at 1,800 rpm on a set.
- Oil-cooled bearing housing. No coolant circuit to corrode or air-lock on an engine that stands for months between runs, which is the usual life of a stand-by set.
- Built to the original boost curve. 1.15 A/R turbine housing and a 46.45 mm compressor inducer match the fuel setting the engine shipped with, so it bolts up without touching the pump.

FAQ
How do I know this is the right turbo for my machine?
Match the plate, not the badge. The compressor housing plate carries 466980-0001, 466980-5001S or 466980-9001S and the code TA3403, and any of those is this unit. Then check the engine code on the block - 6506 covers the turbocharged 6059T, 6068T and 6359T. If the plate is unreadable, send a photo with the serial.
Does one turbo really cover both the 5.9L and the 6.8L?
Yes, and it is the same casting family rather than a compromise. Both engines share a 106 mm bore, and one assembly is catalogued for John Deere across the 6059T, 6359T, 6068T and 6414T codes - the difference is stroke, 110 mm against 127 mm, not the flange. What does change the fit is the 6068 build above Dubuque serial 699999.
What is the difference between 466980-0001, 466980-5001S, RE25625 and RE30067?
Two numbering systems for one assembly. 466980-0001 and 466980-1 are the earlier builds, 466980-5001S the current boxed number, and 466980-9001 the same unit later. RE25625, RE30067 and RE65096 are the engine-side numbers. The build 466980-5001S is what has to match.
What comes in the box?
One TA3403 assembly with the mounting gaskets, foam-packed in a carton. If you need the oil feed line, studs or flange nuts, send the engine model and serial and we will quote them.
What do I have to do before fitting it?
Change the oil and filter, check the feed line is clear and not coked, and make sure the drain is not restricted - a blocked drain pushes oil past the seals and is the fastest way to kill a new turbo. Prime at the oil inlet before the first start, clean the intake and charge pipes, and torque the flanges to the figures for your engine serial. On a stand-by set that has stood a season, change the oil before the first run.
What does the 12-month warranty cover?
Manufacturing defects - bearing failure, seal failure, housing cracks and wheel damage not caused by installation or by an engine fault. Damage from oil starvation, a restricted drain, foreign object ingestion or over-speeding is not a manufacturing defect. Send the serial and photos of the plate and the failed part.
